Expandable spiral tubing from Ø4 to 130mm
The spiral wrapping band : flexibility alloys to organize and protect your cables
In many industrial workshops as well as in our daily offices, electrical cables often form an unaesthetic and impractical entanglement. Beyond visual disorder, these anarchic beams can cause safety problems (risk of hanging, difficulty cleaning) and complicate maintenance. In view of this, the spiral wrapping band is a simple and effective solution. This flexible plastic winding allows to group, guide and protect several threads within the same tubing, providing additional order and protection to electrical installations.
Technical characteristics and benefits of the spiral wrapping band
Designed generally of high quality plastic material (including PE polyethylene), the spiral wrapping band has a helical structure that is both flexible and robust. Its spiral shape gives it great flexibility : It can easily coil around a beam of cables, even irregularly shaped, and adapt to different strand diameters. The same tubing Thus, a few fine wires can be assembled as well as a thick beam of several centimetres in diameter, spreading more or less during winding. The polyethylene material also ensures a good mechanical hold and a considerable resistance to external aggression. Indeed, the spiral wrapping band standard is resistant to friction, repeated bending, and supports large temperature deviations (typically from -30°C to +70°C in continuous operation). In addition, it offers an interesting chemical inertia : PE sheaths do not fear most acids, industrial oils or common solvents, making them suitable for demanding technical environments (mechanical workshops, production plants, etc.).
Most of the spiral sheaths on the market are made of standard polyethylene, but there are also polyamide (nylon) variants that offer higher temperature holding, or flexible PVC when transparency prevails. There are even special flame retardant models, formulated to be self-extinguishing (conform to UL94 V0 for example), as well as spiral sheaths supporting extreme temperatures (realised in PTFE and capable of holding up to 260°C continuously) for very demanding sectors such as rail or aerospace. These variations meet specific needs, while retaining the basic principle of spiral wrapping band.
Available in a variety of diameters and colours, spiral wrapping band easily integrates into any type of installation. The most common models are black or transparent (natural). The black, charged with carbon, has the advantage of being more resistant to UV rays and therefore ideal outdoors, while the translucent version allows to keep visible the color codes or markings of the wires inside. Other shades (grey, white...) also exist to harmonize with a specific colour code or aesthetics of a place. Whatever its colour, the tubing Spirale retains its characteristic flexibility and helical opening principle.
One of the main advantages of this product is its ease of use and reusability. Implementation does not require specific tools : simply insert the end of the cable beam into the tubing and spirally roll around the wires, or vice versa spin the tubing around the beam. The operation is simple and fast, especially as the tubing can be tailored to the desired length with a clamp or scissors. Unlike other solutions such as adhesive tape or disposable clamps, the spiral wrapping band is not a single-use consumer : It can be removed without damage at any time (in the drop-down) to modify the wiring, then reposition it or reuse it elsewhere. This characteristic is particularly appreciated by electricians and automaticians who have to change their installations regularly. Moreover, thanks to the natural opening between the turns, it is possible to pull a cable individually at any point of the beam without having to cut the tubing – a convenient advantage to derive a connection to equipment on the way. Finally, by enveloping drivers, the spiral wrapping band protects them from external aggression : it reduces abrasion due to vibration or friction, and offers a first barrier against liquid projections or dust.
