Heat shrinkable tubing flexible with a shrink ratio of 1.5:1
What shrink ratio 1.5:1 Means ?
The essential characteristic of a heat shrinkable tubing is its ability to contract in diameter under the effect of heat. Thus, heat shrinkable tubing with an initial inner diameter of 4.85 mm and a shrink ratio 1.5:1, will see its diameter at the minimum limit take the value of 2.8 mm.
one of the interests of a low ratio such 1.5:1 is that this allows a precise pose of the tubing with a beautiful look. The more important the ratio, the more difficult the retraction is to achieve homogeneously, especially if you have to retract the tubing minimum restraint.
To complete this 1.5:1 tightness feature, the industrialists propose sheaths with complementary tightness ratios such as the Restricted 1.2:1, Restricted 2:1, Restricted 3:1, Restricted 4:1 for fine walls, or Restricted 6:1 for thick-walled sheaths with high-restricted adhesive.
Example of a tubing with a shrink ratio of 1.5:1 : the high temperature tubing PTFE model PTFE15
The heat shrinkable tubing PTFE15 is proposed in bar of 1.22 m, round section, without adhesive, with a shrink ratio 1.5:1 moderate suitable for nearby diameters. Made of modified PTFE tetrafluoroethylene, it offers high chemical resistance to hydrocarbons, acids and aggressive agents, while ensuring a hard, shiny and mechanically tear-resistant surface. Its range of use extends from -65 °C to +260 °C continuously, with allowable peaks up to 400 °C. Complete retraction occurs from 350 °C, with controlled longitudinal reduction (max. 0 to 10%). Self-extinguishing, VW-1 graded, UL224 & CSA certified and MIL-SPEC compliant SAE-AMS-DTL-23053/5 classes 1 and 2, it meets demanding industrial environments. Compliant with RoHS and REACH, it is a reliable technical solution for high temperature applications without UV exposure.
In the field, the tubing PTFE in ratio 1.5:1 does not use as a polyolethin classic. In the workshop, a diameter very close to the cable to be protected is chosen, as the reduction is deliberately moderate : a tubing 3 mm will stabilize around 2 mm after tightened. This precision is significant when working on fine sensors, high temperature wires or fragile connections, as the wall remains homogeneous without crushing the component. On the other hand, suitable equipment is needed. : until hot air exceeds 300 °C, PTFE does not move. Once the right temperature is reached, the tubing contracts clearly, plates against the support and, after cooling, does not relax. A perfectly adjusted, mechanically safe dressing is then obtained, capable of holding long without cracking or relaxing in service.
