Heat shrinkable tubing with a retraction rate of 4:1
What shrink ratio 4:1 Means ?
The essential characteristic of a heat shrinkable tubing is its ability to contract in diameter under the effect of heat. Thus, heat shrinkable tubing with an initial internal diameter of 24 mm and a shrink ratio of 4:1, will have its diameter at the minimum tightness take the value of 6 mm.
More shrink ratio is important, i.e. greater than 2:1, the more the choice must be motivated by the need to restrain the tubing with distant diameters, including shrink ratio (the largest diameter divided by the smallest diameter) is greater than 2. In heat shrinkable tubing flexible wall thin, shrink ratio 4:1 is the highest available on the market.
To complete this feature of Restricted 4:1, the industrialists propose sheaths with complementary tightness ratios such as Restricted 1.2:1, Restricted 1.5:1, Restricted 2:1, Restricted 3:1 for fine walls, Restricted 6:1 for thick-wall sheaths with Restricted adhesive.
Example of a tubing with a shrink ratio of 4:1 : the dual wall heat shrinkable tubing ratio 4:1 with adhesive Ø 1 to 52 mm - model PF4-A
The thin-wall heat shrink tubing type PF4-A is designed for applications requiring high recovery power thanks to its shrink ratio 4:1, available from Ø1 mm to Ø52 mm. Coated with an internal adhesive layer, it ensures effective sealing when retracting : glue melts and fills the gaps to protect the connections from moisture, dust and external aggression. Its operating range from -55 °C to +135 °C makes it suitable for current industrial environments, with a restricted temperature above 135 °C ensuring controlled implementation. Flexible, UL 224 certified, RoHS and REACH compliant, it is UV resistant (except transparent version). Colours are available on request. A 3:1-to-adhesive version is also proposed for configurations requiring a lower reduction power.
In a workshop specializing in the preparation of mountaineering equipment, a technician must protect an identification label sewn on a textile strap used for safety loins. The label shall have a lot number and date of inspection which shall remain perfectly legible while being protected from moisture, abrasion and repeated friction against rock or metal.
It positions a heat shrinkable tubing PF4-A transparent Ø24 mm around the area, first threading over a carabiner already mounted on the strap. The 4:1 ratio is indispensable here : the tubing must cross the large volume of the carabiner ( During heating, the wall contracts evenly while the internal adhesive melts and solidifies the tubing Textiles, creating protection Waterproof and sustainable.
After cooling, the label remains visible through the tubing transparent but perfectly protected against water, dust and mechanical wear, while maintaining the flexibility necessary for folding and handling equipment in real-life conditions.
