PTFE Heat shrinkable tubing

The tubing PTFE is characterized by continuous use over temperatures ranging from -200°C to 260°C, and peak to 400°C. PTFE resistance is exceptional for all known chemicals and UV rays. The electrical features are very good. Its surface is soft, to fortiori, the coefficient of friction is very low.

The tubing PTFE high temperature insulation is available in 1.22 m packaging, please ask us for a separate estimate if you want fixed lengths on reel or lengths other than those indicated. The one distributed by ACLP has a restrained coefficient of 4:1, or 1.5:1, but other lower or higher retraction ratios are technically possible upon request.

The tubing PTFE high temperature insulation is a tubing high-end. The temperature range for use is very wide. Mechanically and chemically, it is one of the best performing. Besides, it's very smooth. One of its drawbacks is that it costs at least 3 to 4 times more than a tubing Polyolethin. It is also very difficult to implement. For this reason, it must be put in the hands of specialists, and is dedicated to sectors of high added value. For example, aerospace for Vulcan engines, Formula 1 car, medical scanners, the high-end chemistry sector.

General use tubing high temperature insulation : the tubing PTFE high temperature insulation is used as a moisture protection, at very high temperatures and for applications that are exposed to aggressive chemicals.

A bicycle brake cable is subjected to significant mechanical stresses, in particular the abrasion due to the back and forth of the steel cable in the tubing. Use of hot air gun, or welding iron for diameters less than 4.8 mm, to shrink PTFE is possible, but these methods can cause overheating locally on the material and also of what is inside the material tubing, which can lead to an uneven shrinkage and potential combustion of the tubing. However, the flame will be extinguished within 30 seconds, as the PTFE is self-extinguishing. With a hot air gun it is recommended to use a deflector. This will help to wrap up the tubing PTFE of high and sudden heat. Then the retraction will be instantaneous and visible at sight.

The most reliable method for this type of tubing for a good shrinkage is to use a controlled heat oven. However, it remains impractical for large beams or heat-sensitive components.

The tubing PTFE high temperature insulation is the most difficult to shrink among our product range and requires a specific skill, contrary to the action to restrain a tubing Polyolethin which is within the reach of many more people.
